I am finally back from my month of travelling and have some very fun DIYs lined up for you guys! To start off, we have a DIY emerald green rope necklace with crystal jewel details. Emerald green, of course, is the color of 2013. There were some beautiful crystal accessories on the Fall 2013 runway from Balmain and Dries Van Noten, among others. To recreate these trends and add your own style to them in a few simple steps, keep on reading!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Colored Rope (30 Inches)
- Sew-on Jewels (1 main & 9 others)
- 10 Jump Rings
- Jewelry Pliers
The best kind of rope for this DIY is the one made out of twisting 2-3 thinner cords together. You can usually find these in the trim section of a fabric or craft store. When you cut the rope to the 30 inch size, the ends might fray. If it does, add a knot or a narrow strip of metallic duct tape at the ends. I added gold duct tape and trimmed the frayed part to make it into a mini fringe. The jewels have to be sew-on so that they have the holes for jump rings. I used a sew-on acrylic kind for the main jewel left over from this DIY. I picked purple as it will go very well with the green rope. I took the other 9 crystal jewels from a bracelet you have seen me wear in this and this DIY.
Step 1: Using the pliers and a jump ring, attach one crystal jewel to the main jewel.
Step 2: Fold the rope in half to find its center. Add another jump ring to the second hole on the main jewel and attach it to the center of the rope. Do not put the whole rope through the jump ring – attach it only to one of the thinner cords the rope is made of.
Step 3 & 4: Use the pliers and jump rings to continue adding the remaining crystal jewels on both sides of the main jewel. I added four on each side. Make sure to leave enough space between the jewels so they don’t cover each other when you wear the necklace.
That’s all and now you are the creator and owner of a beautiful emerald green rope & crystal necklace! Quick and simple! Have fun accessorizing your outfits this fall with this DIY necklace.
