When I saw the Roberto Cavalli’s Resort 2013 collection, I was instantly in love with the porcelain inspired blue and white floral prints. Looking back, Rodarte’s Spring 2011 and Preen’s Pre-Fall 2012, among others, had pieces with similar prints. Of course, there was also the Oscar de la Renta gown created specially for Vogue 2006 September issue. Kristen Dunst poses as Mary Antoinette in the amazing shot by Annie Leibovitz.

I had been wondering how to find a similar print fabric to DIY a dress or a skirt.  Then I came across this strapless dress at H&M from their 2012 Blue Crush Collection that reminded me of the porcelain inspired floral print. It was in the clearance section for only $7! I am not a big fan of strapless dresses but I bought it anyways. Today’s DIY will show you how to turn a strapless dress into a skirt in two easy steps.

You’ll need:

  • A Strapless Dress
  • Scissors
  • Needle & Thread (In a color close to the fabric’s)

Step 1: Measure 1 inch above the waist on the strapless dress and cut off the top portion of the dress.

Step 2: On the skirt section of the dress, fold the 1 inch inward and iron. Then secure it with pins and sew around the skirt making sure not to hide the zippers at the ends.

Then you have a high waist skirt from a strapless dress in a beautiful blue and white porcelain inspired floral print!

I am really happy with the result especially because it only cost me $7 to recreate a look inspired from the runways. Thanks to DIY fashion!
