Festival season is already in full swing and with so many yet to happen, I teamed up with boohoo to bring you a summer festival inspired no-sew DIY outfit. I picked one of the most popular and simple maxi dresses from boohoo and customized it for a more personalized look. The DIY dress is not only chic but also super comfortable for those hot summer fest days. There is no sewing involved and it will take you less than 30 minutes to DIY. Let’s get started!

Here is what you’ll need:

  • Maxi Dress (bohoo Sandy Scoop Neck)
  • Gold Metallic Fringe Trim (Simplicity)
  • Studs (With 4 Fold-Over Prongs)
  • Gold Safety Pins (Medium Size)
  • Gold Pearl Beads (5mm Size/Jewelry Essentials)
  • Scissors

Step 1: Try on your dress and mark where you want the top to be cropped. Lay the dress on a flat surface and align the front and the back sides of the dress. Then make the cut in a straight line right where you had marked. You will now have the top and the skirt pieces of the dress.

Step 2: While leaving the dress lying flat, take a safety pin and put it though the front edge of the skirt piece of the dress. Start from one side and make sure that the safety pin isn’t too close to the edge — leave at least half a centimeter of fabric.

Step 3: Add 3 gold beads on the safety pin.

Step 4: Put the safety pin through the front edge on the top piece of the dress and secure it.

Step 5: Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4 till you complete joining the top and the skirt pieces on both front and back sides of the dress.

Step 6: Measure and cut the metallic fringe trim to fit the front neckline of the dress.

Step 7: Use the pronged studs to secure the trim on the dress neckline. Start from the center and work your way out to the sides. You can apply the studs as close as you like but not more than 1 cm further apart.

Step 8: Try on your dress and mark where you want the side splits to begin. Using your scissors, carefully make the cuts on the side seams on both sides of the dress.

There you have your personalized maxi dress ready for any festival this summer! You can also opt for more colorful trims or beads instead of gold. I am a big fan of everything gold! The boohoo maxi dress also comes in 13 different colors, so you have many options to be creative with your festival outfit! I would love to see your versions, post them on our Facebook page. Until next time, stay HIGH on DIY and have a fun festival season!

This DIY is brought to you in collaboration with boohoo. Thanks to my friend Rhea for being my pretty model for the DIY!
